Straight Out of the Camera Sunday

Straight Out of the Camera Sunday is the meme brainchild of Murrieta 365. Anyone can join in. There are two rules: 1) the photo must have been taken by you, and 2) no tweaking, cropping allowed.

I'm trying to get a feel for the close up mode with my new camera, a Canon Rebel Xsi, and the EF 18-55mm IS lens. So far, I've not taken what I think is a good macro; but before I purchase another lens, I need to know a lot more about lenses, what the numbers mean, what can be expected with various f stops, etc., than I do. :D

I like the way this one turned out.

I would have liked to have had the flower fill the shot. Back to more research and the instruction booklet. And, I may do an online photography class.

Until next time, God bless.

You are really getting the hang of it. A new camera takes a lot of adjusting to.

Beautiful shots Lynn, you and your new camera seem to be bonding.

Macros take a little practice. Move in close and play around until you get what you want. Have fun with it!

Both shots present beautiful subjects even from a slight distance! Especially love the bells!

I have a Canon Rebel. And yes, some of the other lenses create great shots. I got the telefoto lens last spring - I plan to get a macro lens this spring.

In the top one, you are beginning to get the bokeh that you get with these cameras. Lovely. And I love the effect of the shadows in the second one. For now, you could also crop it to "fake" a macro.

I'm still learning my camera. I do have a macro lens for my Nikon D80. I just couldn't get any good macro shots with my regular lens. Now my macro shots turn out great.
I do like the flower shot. I miss taking pictures of flowers.

Thanks, all.

Leora, the bells were an accident. I liked it but did not know why. I've seen the term bokeh but did not stop to find out what it meant until you mentioned it. After reading up on the term, I can begin to understand what is going on with the camera. :D

I like the way the light falls on the flower and how it stands out against the green leaves.
