Happy Birthday to Me

At the risk of being called narcissistic, I am singing Happy Birthday to me. I've hit another decade! There are just some birthdays that grab your attention more than others. Well, this is one of them. Hallelujah and praise God, I am seventy today. :D I made a big deal out of my father turning seventy and remember thinking that is old. Well, let me tell you, I do NOT feel old. The mirror tells me I have some wrinkles, but my mind tells me I'm just a young thing running around having fun and enjoying life.

I found this old photo -- don't you just love the bonnet. It looks like I did not have much hair anyway. Hubby tells me that he did not bargain for a seventy-year-old wife, but then seems to get very quiet when I mention that I did not bargain for a seventy-five-and-a-half-year-old husband. lol

My oldest son is coming in from Iraq this weekend for some R&R. My youngest is riding his motorcycle from Bryan, Texas to spend the weekend with us. I try to not think about his riding a motorcycle. His wife is getting some sort of special certification for Search & Rescue with dogs this weekend and will not be here. She and her dogs have several certifications along these lines, but apparently there is a more in depth certification to be had. She is so dedicated.

When asked what I wanted for my birthday, I said money. I've gained weight and cannot get into my other clothes comfortably, or at all in most instances. I must buy something I can wear. To diet I have to go to a 900 calorie a day consumption, and I am not pleasant on 900 calories a day. I drink skim milk, do not keep desserts in the house, eat beef about twice a week, eat chicken or turkey or just veggies at other times, fix salads with very little dressing, do not drink pop, only eat whole wheat bread, exercise, eat fruit, take vitamins, drink water and more water, etc., and still gain weight. Nothing at this house is fried or comes with gravy which is quite a switch since I grew up in Texas during the 40's, 50's and 60's when just about every meat dish was fried and came with gravy -- it was standard Texas fare. When my dad did a special Sunday breakfast, he made a bacon or ham gravy for the biscuits. Weight gain is the main evil of getting older for a woman, don't you think, ladies?

Hubby brought me a dozen of the most glorious red roses yesterday. The roses need a taller vase but this one was quickest to grab. We plan to go to dinner somewhere; my choice. I just might have something fried with gravy and have dessert -- maybe some Key Lime pie topped with whipped cream -- and to heck with a diet. Sorry about the weight rant.

Happy Birthday to Me. Life is good.

Until next time, God bless.

Happy Happy Birthday To You!!!
My great uncle always told me that 10 years older than yourself was old. When you are 40 you say "I'm not old. 50 is" when you get 50 you say "I don't feel old, 60 is old" and so forth. So your not old!

Happy Birthday Lynn. I agee with everything you said. The roses are beautiful and yes on your birthday have that key lime pie.

Thanks for all the kind birthday wishes and I did get that big piece of Key Lime pie with a dollop of whipped cream. I tempered the pie with 2 boiled shrimp, salad, broccoli, 1/2 order of garlic grilled shrimp and rice pilaf -- nothing fried or dripping in gravy. :D
